Great Days Out
MELROSE is a beautiful town around 30 minutes drive from Colterscleuch. There is an abbey, gardens, independent shops and cafes. We like lunch at Burts Hotel 12-2pm.
Abbotsford House was the home of Sir Walter Scott and now has tours of the house, riverside walks along the Tweed, gardens & a visitor centre with restaurant. It is just a stone throw from Melrose and is a great addition to this day out. Postcode: TD6 9BQ
JEDBURGH is another traditional Scottish Borders town boasting an abbey, Jedburgh Jail, Mary Queen of Scots House and some lovely shops too. We love tea & cakes at Border Meringues and visiting Lovatt Gallery.
Born In The Borders is a great place to stop off when visiting Jedburgh. A local brewery which produces the best beers with ingredients grown on site. You can see how everything is made with a wee tour. The gift shop has fantastic Scottish Borders gifts & produce and a deli too. The bottle shop has beers from all over Scotland - a real treat! A restaurant on site serving local food prepared to order is the icing on the cake! Postcode: TD8 6ST
HARESTANES VISITOR CENTRE is great for families.
You'll find a play park for kids to let off steam, visitor centre & shop, local artisan shops and Mary's Dairy home made ice creams... delicious! Postcode: TD8 6UQ
Woodside Garden is a plant centre & tea room. It's our favourite stop off for lunch when we are in the area. Delicious award winning home produce, using lots of ingredients from the gardens. Leave room for the best selection of home made cakes you can imagine! The gardens are a delight, with an RSPB wildlife pond and bird viewing cameras too. There are workshops and classes for adults & childern all year round.

LANGHOLM is a delightful little town heading south. There are lovely galleries - our favourites are The Mustard Gallery & Julie Dumbarton Fine Art.
Lunch, dinner & teas and coffees are well catered for. We love the Eskdale Hotel for lunch or dinner.
Kagyu Samye Ling Buddhist Monastery in Eskdalemuir, is a beautiful drive from Langholm. It was the first Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in the western world, founded in 1967. You can visit the gardens and tea rooms and even visit the beautiful temple
